There are several ways by which we can increase the maximum file upload size in WordPress. Some of the alternatives do work out, while some don’t. However, the simplest and easiest approach to do this is through the php.ini file. Though this file won’t be seen if our website is hosted on a shared server, what we can do is –
1. Create a new php.ini file. Assuming that we want to increase the default 8MB limit to 32MB, add the following content into that file:
upload_max_filesize = 32M
post_max_size = 32M
max_execution_time = 3000
2. Upload this php.ini file to the wp-admin directory of your wordpress installation.
3. To verify if this approach worked out. Create a new post/page, click on Add Media button, you will see the upload size limit increase to 32MB, as can be seen in the below snapshot:
